Heartburn Acid Reflux Can Cause Bad Breath
Imagine yourself talking to a group of people and you notice that slowly one by one start to back away from you or pretend that you have something else to attend to. At that moment, you would start to wonder whether your recent bout of heartburn is causing you to lose your audience.
A quick way to know whether you have bad breath is to lick the inside of your wrist and let it dry for a few seconds. Then, you smell to see if there is an odor. If so, you are experiencing bad breath, or halitosis, which part of your problem might be either related to, or a direct result of acid reflux/GERD.
Most medical experts will explain to you that bad breath is caused by yoru diet, lack of saliva swishing around in your mouth, stress, dehydration, and stomach activity, i.e. acid indigestion. With so many people experience acid reflux in their sleep, there is a high possibility that morning bad breath isn’t just a lack of saliva activity, but is related to GERD.
It is NOT surprised that heartburn acid reflux is listed as one of the causes for bad breath. Just think of it – an acidic liquid rising up from your stomach is definitely not going to smell good, and if that liquid is getting up to your throat, through a loosening in the collapsible valve at the tip of your stomach, it’s naturally going to make your breath smell pretty foul.
Stress and foods like spicy or garlic food can cause bad breath also.
Thus, there is a common belief that by simply making changes to your diet and stress levels you will stop your heartburn symptoms. Well, it is not as simple as what the medical experts want you to believe.
It requires a long term solution and consistent effort in making the changes to your diet and lifestyle. Remember that your heartburn symptoms do not happen overnight.
