Do You Know That Acupuncture Can Eases Pregnancy Heartburn?

acupunctureStudies have shown that about 80% of pregnant women suffer from heartburn during their pregnancy. Although you’d like to believe it is because your baby is going to have a head full of glorious hair, like grandma said, you would trade those locks for a nice cue ball in a second if it would guarantee you could eat a decent meal with no repercussions. However, if you could have a baby with glorious hair and a heartburn-free meal, too?

In Brazil, a recent study has shown that acupuncture can help to relieve indigestion and heartburn in pregnant women. According to HealthDay News, heartburn was reduced by half in 75% of women who were treated with acupuncture. Women who received the treatments also reported eating and sleeping better. 15 of the women in the acupuncture group said their eating habits improved by 50%, compared with fewer than 1 in 3 in the group who were treated with conventional methods. 14 women who received acupuncture said their sleep improved by 50%, compared with just 1 in 4 in the other group. The full report is published in the June issue of Acupuncture in Medicine.

While this may be good news, the study is controversial with some doctors uncomfortable with the idea of conducting acupuncture on pregnant women.

Just be sure to discuss it with your OB before starting any alternative treatments.
