Are You A Healthy Person?
Many people oftens think that they are healthy as long as they exercise regularly.
Here is a story about a bodybuilder Tony Goodley who recently had a health scare.
‘I really thought I was a healthy person’
A recent health scare opened bodybuilder Tony Goodley’s eyes.
The bodybuilding grandfather was known for his toughness.
For lifting weights and bow hunting and even shrugging off an accidental chainsaw gash on his arm.
Now, Tony Goodley is also known for his good sense.
And with that, he’s spreading an important message one person at a time.
His story is more powerful because he almost didn’t do the right thing, nearly ignoring the pain and discomfort in his chest.
And he knows that could have killed him.
That’s why he’d like to make sure others end up as fortunate as he has.

When we had last checked in with Goodley he was training at the Strictly Fitness gym in East York and preparing for bodybuilding shows.
That was in July.
Only two months later he started feeling what he thought was intense heartburn or acid reflux. The warm, dull pain would come and go, often acting up while he moved loads of fertilizer in his lawn care job.
Three or four weeks later the same pain struck while he was lifting weights — and lingered longer, for 15 minutes. When the feeling returned a little later he drove himself to Memorial Hospital.
The discomfort then vanished again.
“I was saying, ‘Wow, this is crazy. What should I do? Should I go in and have it be a false alarm and be embarrassed because it’s heartburn or acid indigestion?
“I said, ‘Lord, let me know. I’m going to walk around the hospital and you let me know if this is where I need to

be.’ I walked around the hospital and, ‘boom,’ it hit me again.”
He walked into the emergency room and soon after learned he had a 90 percent arterial blockage — a blockage in the left anterior descending artery, which is called the “widow maker.”
A stent was installed to keep the artery open and blood flowing, and he was sent home in a couple of days. He began taking daily medicines but was back to exercising and a normal routine quickly.
“I really thought I was a healthy person,” he said. “But I had been hunting that week, and if I had tried to drag something out of the woods I probably would have still been there.
“It’s not necessarily about being in great condition. When you think you are you really don’t know what’s going on internally.”
Now, though, things are looking good.
His energy is back, his follow-up test results are about perfect as possible and he’s training for more bodybuilding shows this spring.
He’s motivated even more in his workouts, determined to overcome this setback.
But there are even more important things.
He was given another chance to live so he figured the right thing to do is help others get the same chance. At least a handful of friends have listened to his story and have seen doctors and undergone tests to check their chest pains.
Just to be sure …
To do the smart thing.
“I feel like there’s a reason or purpose in all of this” he said, “and if I’ve opened eyes and made people more aware…”
Then he’s done more good than he’ll probably ever know.
